About the Event

As part of the Thrive Bike 2022 weekend of cycling events based in Ballater, Scottish Adventure brings you the Balalter Dash 2022.

The Ballater Dash is the ultimate personal challenge designed to test your route planning, navigation and riding skills at your own pace.  Tackle this challenge on your own or as part of a group to collect as many checkpoint stamps as you like while negotiating a route of your choice. This is the ultimate in adventure cycling designed to be inclusive for all abilities.

The Ballater Dash 2022 will start and finish in the square in the middle of Ballater. The checkpoints will take you into the Balmoral Estate and through to Craig Vallich area, Prony and around the River Gairn. The Ballater Dash 2022 will be mostly gravel terrain.

Each of the Tartan Dash Series events are held in different locations across Scotland with the objective of giving riders the opportunity to experience new routes and terrain as we all supporting local Scottish businesses by promoting destination information about business supporting adventure tourism.

We hope you'll take this opportunity to make a weekend of our event and perhaps stay somewhere close to our Event Hub or check out the local food and tourist activities.

All Tartan Dash Series events are self-supported multiple checkpoint cycling events where participants are given the location of six checkpoints within a 40km circumference of the event hub which they will need to ride to in order to collect stamps on their Rider Card. The check point locations are manned by our Event Volunteer Marshalls armed with a stamp which has been sponsored by a local Scottish business (don't forget to look them up after the event!).

The location of the checkpoints will be issued by email to all registered participants 7 days prior to the event so you can decide:

  • how many check point stamps you plan to collect
  • which route you plan to take
  • which type of bike will be best based on your route
  • where the best photo opportunities and food stops will be

Registration will take place between 09:00 and 09:45hrs where you will register and be issued your Rider Card which will be stamped at each of the checkpoint locations. Riders will set off at 10:00hrs after a short briefing and can take any route they choose collecting any amount of checkpoint stamps they wish in any order they choose.

Once all the relevent checkpoint stamps have been collected, riders will proceed back to Event Hub to finish the event. On crossing the finish line, riders can collect refreshments and an exclusive and unique event patch to remember the event by. We may also have local business stalls at the Event Hub.

You can collect any amount of check point stamps you choose and you can change your mind during the event. At each checkpoint simply present your Rider Card to our Event Volunteer Marshalls who will stamp it with our unique stamp as proof that you made it to that particular checkpoint. You can then set off to your next chosen checkpoint. Our Event Volunteer Marshalls will be wearing hi-vis jackets so you can easily find them however, the location co-ordinates which will be emailed to all participants will be exact.

  • Rider Card to collect your check point stamps and times on
  • A collectible iron on / sew-on event logo patch unique to this event
  • Toilet facilities at the Event Hub
  • The opportunity to explore Scotland at your own pace!
